Yesterday's Mommy Co

Twice a month I get together with a bunch of other mom from the church.  Once a month we do a craft, and once a month we have speaker/discussion time. Yesterday, we had Mandy Randolph come share with us on "raising your children with an eye to their future".  What beautiful time it was.  Mandy shared stories of her own successes and failures, and encouraged us to see our children with God's eyes.  What are things that we prayed for them, what are the clues we see in them now, what are the things we see that could be struggles for them. Two of things that she shared really stuck with me.  One was that for one of her girls she prayed that she would be a warrior, but when she prayed that, Mandy did not realize that it would mean that her daughter would fight with her.  And how she had to come to grips with the bigness and the full picture of what a warrior really is, and that changed how she prayed and how she parented.  The other things is tied to the first, in that part of being a warrior is a need for adventure, and how Mandy had to not let her own limitations (e.g. fear of heights) get in the way of her daughter's adventures.  She quoted Ann Daniel who says about raising kids "you say 'no' to evil, but not to adventure".  I remember Ann talking about making sure you had a reason to say "no" not just to say "no" as a knee jerk reaction.

Mandy also had us make list of the things we already see in our kids, and the things we would like to see. She ecouraged us to pray for eachother and eachother kids. Oh, man there were too many Good things to list.  I wish that it had been recorded.
