Paleo...again

Dave starts a new Paleo challenge on Saturday.  It is 8 weeks, so it will go to just before Thanksgiving.  This time around he is planning one cheat only (Elise's wedding), going to cut way down on fruit, and focus on balancing his fat/carb/protein ratios.

So that means that the rest of us are going to be eating mostly Paleo again too.  Our biggest change will be very little to no dessert for the next 8 weeks.  I told Dave that I was fine not to have dessert 3 times a week, like we are now, but that I was not going to  go for 8 weeks with no dark chocolate.  ;-p
I did tell Seth though, that we would not be having dessert with Daddy was eating Paleo for the challenge, so we will see how Seth does with that.

Dave has made such amazing progress in the last 6+ months as he has been doing crossfit and eating Paleo.  He has dropped 23+ lbs, and lost like 6% body fat.  He'd like to lose another 5% body fat during this challenge, which I think he can totally do.  So I really want to help him in every way I can.

Goodbye TJ's coffee ice cream, it has been great knowing you.  See you in 8 weeks!

six questions

So we had a home group leaders meeting last Sunday.  One of the things we went over were a set of questions that Nick had posed to us two or three meetings ago.  At the last meeting he warned us that he was going to want answers from us at this meeting.  I am going to put the questions and my answers here, as a way to remind myself of them...

1)What area of spiritual discipline is God calling me to invest in?
--Study
---Dave and I are going to start Porterbrook in Oct, so I see that as one way to work on this.

2) Who are the promising apprentices (disciples) he is calling me to invest in?
--I don't really have one person that I see a Disciple...but there are two or three ladies that feel like God has put in my life, that I can/have been investing...each one in a different area, and in some of those relationships I feel like it goes both ways.

3)What area of weakness is He calling me to invest in?
--Time management.  I need to do a better job with my days.  I know I could be doing a lot more with my time. Now that Lulu is only taking one nap, and the kids can play together there is no excuse for making dinner being the only thing I do in a day.
---To that end, I am going to cut out reading fiction for a couple of months to help myself focus.

4)What area of potential greatness is God calling me to invest in?
--Study, and I also think writing
---So Porterbrook will give me a place to start with study...writing I am not sure where to start...

5)What area of team culture is he calling me to invest in?
--servanthood

6)What sphere of mission is he calling me to invest in?
--our neighborhood, Mommy Co.,

Ok, so now it is out there, and people can see it...so I am accountable.

Hope of Fall

Well the mornings are getting a bit cooler, even if it is still HOT in the middle of the day.  The temps have been all over the place.  It was mid-70's the other day, and Saturday is supposed to be 100.  But it is in the 60's outside right now, so the windows are the door are open to try to get some of the wonderful morning air, before I have close everything up and turn on the A/C.

Fall!!!

I really can't wait for Fall.  It is my favorite season.  I know that compared to other places, we don't really have "seasons" here in SoCal; we have "Amazing", "Less than amazing cause it is TOO HOT", and "Less than amazing cause it is TOO COLD".  I am not complaining, it is "Amazing" for about 85% of the year, and even our "less than amazing..." could be considered "nice weather" in other places.

But the Fall that we get, I LOVE.  Every year, about this time, I start to really long for it.  I know that we have more Summer left, and that some years September is the hottest month, but once August is over I am ready for crispy cool mornings, and the trees to change.

I was thinking about it the other day, I realized that I feel this way every season change.  The last month of cold, I am ready for hot...And then I started to realize that I feel this way about a lot of things not just the seasons, when it was just Dave & I, I wanted a to be pregnant, 3rd Trimester came and I was done being pregnant and wanted the baby now...I long for a change and something different instead of enjoying where I am at. I know that part of this normal, and everybody feels this way.  We all need to be a bit uncomfortable so we are willing to move on.  But, we are also called to contentment, and to be thankful and rejoice in the Lord always. So this year I am going to do my best enjoy the end of summer, and not rush on.  I know that there will be plenty of crisp mornings and evenings very soon, so I am going to enjoy the sun baking on my head for next few weeks, and rejoice!
